Note that a different textbook was used 2003-2009 and the notation differs slightly. For example, in the textbook that was previously used, the Greek letter
epsilon was used for the random error terms in the regression model, and e was used for its estimate (the residuals).
In the textook adopted in 2010, the random error terms in the regression model
are denoted by e's, with hats for the residuals.
