OBJECTIVES:
- Act as a liason between graduate students and the department.
- Assist students with the opportunity to enhance or gain skills in matters related to their academic achievement (e.g. graduate student seminars).
- Provide students with activities that allow them to relax as well as interact with other students outside the academic environment.
GOALS FOR 2011/2012:
The Exec works closely with the Graduate Chair, Professor

POSITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
All members of the Exec work together to meet the objectives. Matters such as budget and plans for the academic year are decided upon jointly. Collectively, they decide how to best accomplish the goals and divide up specific tasks. Each member of the SGSUEC plays an important part in making things work well. Many of the positions listed below can either be collapsed into one or broken up to reduce the work load.
President
Relay all graduate student concerns and needs to the department.
Attend department meetings and relay all pertinent information to the graduate students.
Organize social events.
Act as official representative of the Statistics Graduate Students Course Union.
Vice-President
Handle issues relating directly to PhD students.
Along with the president, act as a liason between the department and the PhD students.
MSc Rep
Handle issues relating directly to MSc students.
Along with the president, act as a liason between the department and the MSc students.
GSU Rep
Attend regular GSU meetings and relay pertinent information to the students.
Handle GSU Grants.
TA Rep/Union Steward
Represent the Statistics teaching assistants in the department and in the TA Union (CUPE Local 3902).
Act as a representative of the Local to the TAs in the department.
Sports Rep
Organize sports events.
Grad Student Seminar Reps
Organize and run the graduate student seminar series (joint with Biostats).
Treasurer
Keep an account of the finances (money!).
Webmaster
Update the website with info sent by any member of the committee, as well as with pictures from social events.
Officer to Take Pictures at Social Events
Take digital pictures at different social events (or delegates somebody if he/she cannot attend).
Make sure the pictures get to the Officer in charge with updating the website.
Officer to Meet the Seminar Speaker
Send weekly emails with relevant info about the Dept Seminar Speaker to all graduates.
Is responsible to gather around other graduates who are interested to meet the speaker.
Chair the non-informal meetings "Meet the seminar speaker", which last about 30 min.
